Home in Disparate Places (1 & 2) 8.5.23
8/5/2023

These seeds were drawn by a family who feels at home in what feels like disparate places – Japan, Hawaii, and Baltimore. They met and got married in Baltimore, lived in Japan for awhile, then Hawaii (where they had their son), and are now back in Baltimore. Recently their son wanted to go back to Hawaii, which was not in this year’s budget. So, they made some strategic phone calls to talk to people from Hawaii, printed some photos, and took a trip to a local beach in Maryland. He grew up a mile from the ocean, and he misses the water. At this beach trip, two exciting things happened. One, their son lost his first tooth! It’s one of his bottom teeth. The tooth next to it is loose now, and the toothfairy (named Caspian) is going to make a special box for him to keep his teeth in until they’re all gone. Then Capsian will take the teeth back. Second, while the mom was in line, she met someone who also had roots in Baltimore, Hawaii, and Japan.
