Self-Actualization 10.7.23

“What is self-actualization?” asked this student from Johns Hopkins University. She was working on a project about Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. I thought for awhile. Sometimes I get into the habit of saying the same script at the market…asking the same questions, talking about the project. “I think self-actualization is that journey between where you are and where you want to be,” I said. “It’s a process.” She then drew a seed for the pot and asked if I wanted to draw one for her. I did. I drew an arrow of some sort, representing that path towards self-actualization. But I know that it’s not linear. I will come back many times to re-learn lessons I thought I had already learned. I will travel to self-actualization and come back, and be grateful for those fleeting moments when all made sense.
