Like a dancer who doesn’t miss a beat, he swooped into my stand and started drawing on the seed as I explained the project. “I’m an MFA student, moved to Baltimore in December 2020, the market has been critical to me navigating my new community. Do you want to—” He hands me the seed. “Do you want to draw another one? To take with you? How about a muffin?” He has already turned and walked away. I swear it’s like he never stopped moving his feet, this stand just one extended beat in his choreography, the choreography of the market, the path from one vendor to the next. “Stellar Spectacular” is what he wrote. I’m not sure if that’s how he describes his market experience or how he was feeling that day but that is what he chose to plant in this pot.
